18th January 2023 - ADOLESCENCE SESSION

Vision - Nurturing….
Aware, Responsible and empowered Adolescents

Adolescence is a period of rapid development when young people acquire new capacities and are faced with new challenges. They are in a stage which is marked with egos that leads to some level of superiority complex and inferiority complex as well.

In order to prepare young people for life and work in a rapidly changing world, the educational training system needs to be re-oriented to impact and enhance the range of life skills in the students. This will enable them to manifest their potential with confidence and competence and face the challenges of life.

As a strong step towards making our children safe Queen’s Carmel School, conducted a workshop on the school campus, on the topic of ADOLESCENCE. The workshop was conducted by the Health School Nurse, Ms. Pratibha Manocha on January 18, 2023, for the students of grades IV to VI with the objective of spreading awareness and educating school girls about changes in the body during adolescence [11-19years of age] period through Power Point Presentation followed by the question and answer session to clear all girls' doubts. EVERY TEACHER PARTICIPATES IN THE COUNSELING CELL.

“The basic role of a school counsellor is to support students in their psychological, academic, and social development.” - (Heled & Davidovitch; Popov & Spasenovic).

At Queen's Carmel School, the teachers are held in the highest regard, due to the fact that they spend the most time with the students and, as such, are best equipped to identify the interests, skills, talents, strengths, and concerns of the queens. The teaching faculty is highly trained and exceptionally sensitive to the needs of the queens, possessing both the patience and flexibility to effectively counsel them. Teachers are thus entrusted with the utmost trust as facilitators of the students' development.

Facilitators continue to guide students in the development of social skills and integrate them with academic content by incorporating values and involving them in activities to develop their collaborative skills and peer coordination. With good classroom management skills, they deliver engaging lessons to avert the students.

Day-to-day manners, the importance of greetings, instilling the culture of respect for elders, warmth towards younger ones, and creating synergy with the peer group are all part of the regular routine. Workshops in pottery, storytelling, etc. are organised as part of the Happiness Curriculum to fulfil the emotional needs of the kids. Creativity, exploration, experimentation, and happiness are the best ingredients in the recipe called emotional stability. Teachers maintain their calm in situations where the little kids exhibit strong emotions and continue to assist them in realising their dreams.

Safety and security are the key elements of a healthy school environment. Counseling sessions on adolescence and activities like "Good Touch," "Bad Touch," and "Strangers in Danger" are held from time to time (once every quarter) by the resident staff nurse, class in-charges, and the biology teacher. Academically, teachers guide students’ learning issues and routines and provide counselling for regular remedial classes held in school every week. New joinees are counselled to cover the learning gaps by arranging for remedial classes on an individual basis for conceptual clarity and written resources.

In a nutshell, the entire teaching fraternity is well trained to devise action plans that actualize the real potential of the queens to the fullest measure by providing favourable conditions. Above all, there is a connection between the parent and the teacher to provide information about the student’s physical, socio-psychological, and emotional needs and work in collaboration to provide solutions, guidance, and counselling.

11th November 2022- Good Touch And Bad Touch Workshop

“Wisdom is giving children their wings, along with the rudder of awareness to keep them safe from the prying hands.”

A day was especially dedicated to safeguard and protect our tiny winy toddler and give them the warmth of wellbeing through a deliberately planned programme on “Good touch and bad touch.”

The children learnt to identify “no touch” areas and understood that who are safe adults and whom to report when there is an alarming situation.

The demonstration was conducted by Ms. Pratibha Manocha( School Health Staff Nurse) for Grades I to VI. She gave a clear picture about the safe circle. Students of Grade I to VI and kindergarten attended the session.

It was truly gratifying to see children creating their own safe circle by pasting the pictures of their parents and siblings.

This practical presentation helped our little ones to recognize, safeguard and protect themselves against such dangers from early age. The motto of the session was to enlighten that their body belong to them and they need to stay safe and secure.

The students understood the concept about safe/unsafe touch which was explained to them in simplified manner by showcasing movie “Komal” followed by questionanswer round. Colouring activities and take away worksheets for students of Grades were part of their workshop.
